Over twelve million kids are about to leave home to go to camps in every state in the union. As you celebrate Memorial Day remember those times down at the waterfront... which was more than a font of activity, it was a prism through which the social and political hierarchies of camp were revealed for all to see... yes, there were diehard swimmers and avid water skiers. But the real activities took place onshore in a scene that looked as if Sports Illustrated had decided to do an adolescent swimsuit edition. Luminous Body Glove bikinis and OP board shorts showcased the limbs of the beautiful. If you had it, you flaunted it. Be it breasts, or chest hair. Those without cowered behind baggy t-shirts or beach towels. Golden times.
